There are several unique stops along the U.S. Hwy Route 66 tucked away from the major Texas cities that will\u00a0take your breath away. Here is a list of sights to see in the Lone Star State, and don\u2019t forget to stop in Amarillo for the 72oz steak challenge!<\/p><h4>Route 66 Midpoint<\/h4><p>If you are traveling Route 66 from east to west, the \u00ab\u00a0geo-mathematical\u00a0\u00bb Midpoint of Route 66 will be marked by a sign on your right, across from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Restaurant_Review-g30143-d658352-Reviews-Midpoint_Cafe_and_Gift_Shop-Adrian_Texas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midpoint Cafe<\/a>. This cafe is one of the oldest continually-operating cafes on Route 66. Besides being a great photo opportunity, travelers will find that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theroute-66.com\/adrian.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Adrian, Texas<\/a> is also a great place to stop and stretch their legs.<\/p><h4>Leaning Water Tower<\/h4><p>This landmark used to be a functioning water tower\u00a0and was scheduled for demolition until a man by the name of Ralph Britten purchased and moved it to serve as a sign for\u00a0his truck stop and tourist information center. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivingroute66.com\/listings\/leaning-water-tower-groom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leaning water tower<\/a> remains a popular photo attraction and doubles as a unique Christmas tree for the town of Groom topping the tower with a large, colored star each holiday season.<\/p><h4>The Giant Cross<\/h4><p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/texasplainstrail.com\/plan-your-adventure\/historic-sites-and-cities\/sites\/cross-our-lord-jesus-christ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">190-foot-tall cross<\/a> in Groom, Texas is visible up to twenty miles away. The base is surrounded by life-size statues of the 14 Stations of the Cross. From the base\u00a0to the top this massive structure is 19 stories high up from the Texas Panhandle and the landscape is kept flat and empty like unleavened bread and the tomb. Near the statues, you will also find the Empty Tomb and a full-size replica of the Shroud of Turin, which is only one of seven in the world. Make sure to stop when you see this giant cross down Route 66!<\/p><h4>The Conoco Tower Station and U-Drop Inn Cafe<\/h4><p>Built in 1936, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/nr\/travel\/route66\/tower_station_u-drop-inn_cafe_shamrock.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tower Station and U-Drop Inn Cafe<\/a> is one of the most iconic and beautiful buildings along historic Route 66. This Art Deco landmark has a 100-foot tower that is lit by a series of colorful lights. The lights used to be neon but were damaged by a storm leading them to be replaced with LEDs. It is now a museum of its own history and still gives the authentic appearance of a working 1940 gas station.<\/p><h4>Cadillac Ranch<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1479 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/route66rv.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Cadillac-Ranch-300x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/route66rv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Cadillac-Ranch-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/route66rv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Cadillac-Ranch-1024x744.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/route66rv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Cadillac-Ranch-768x558.jpg 768w, https:\/\/route66rv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Cadillac-Ranch-1536x1116.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/route66rv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Cadillac-Ranch-2048x1488.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/h4><p>These ten <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitamarillo.com\/listing\/cadillac-ranch\/625\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">up-ended Cadillacs<\/a> have popped up in several music videos and TV shows such as the video for \u201cLiving in America\u201d by James Brown and in the movie Cars but disguised as \u201cCadillac Range\u201d. These cars have spent longer being buried nose down into the dirt longer than they spent driving down the road!<\/p><h4>VW Slug Bug Ranch<\/h4><p>Here in Conway, Texas, you will find the <a href=\"https:\/\/texasplainstrail.com\/plan-your-adventure\/historic-sites-and-cities\/sites\/vw-slug-bug-ranch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VW Slug Bug Ranch<\/a>. These five Volkswagen Beetles are placed nose down into the ground, just like at Cadillac Ranch. Visitors are encouraged to spray paint the vehicles to leave their mark.<\/p><h4>Palo Duro Canyon State Park<\/h4><p>Just a little bit further out of the way, is a must-visit scenic attraction: <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/palo-duro-canyon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palo Duro Canyon State Park<\/a>. This park covers over 25,000 acres and offers cabins, camping, riding stables, picnic areas, and miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Visit to walk the same trails used by Native Americans, early Spanish explorers, buffalo hunters and pioneers.<\/p><h4>The Devil\u2019s Rope and Route 66 Museum<\/h4><p>These two <a href=\"https:\/\/barbwiremuseum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">museums<\/a> share the same building in McLean, Texas making it an extra convenient stop for visitors. Devil&rsquo;s rope, more commonly known as barbed wire, holds a lot more importance in American history and development than one might think. Without it, the expansion of cattle ranching in Texas wouldn\u2019t have been possible. This place is a visual and ecological paradise featuring outdoor sculpture gardens.
